How can I get rid of a neighbors farm animals when animal control won’t do it’s job? I live in a quite little country subdivision. We get along with all our neighbors except… there is one ‘family’ (I’m not sure how to best describe their familial status). They had chickens penned up which wasn’t a problem.. but they got out and have since had babies. The chickens are all over the neighborhood now. And then it gets worse… most recently they decided to get a pig! It keeps rooting in our septic tank and I’m afraid if it keeps it up it will cause a lot of damage. Oh I forgot to mention I also have a child and these animals can be very dangerous. How can I either drive these animals away or possibly poison them (without harming our little ‘neighborhood dog’)?
We cannot afford to put up a fence and I don’t feel we should have to. It would take away from the look or our property and I WILL NOT be forced to make changes while they let their animals run wild… Next thing you know we’ll find cow in our yard!
In response to the comment by Go By Yourself a Soul… There are ordinances but animal control won’t do anything. I’ve called three times already. The neighbors have been arressted on drug charges recently and I want nothing to do with these people. If an animal is causing damage to my property then the animal is in the wrong (yes the people should not have brought it into the neighborhood but if I can’t make them take better care of the animal I have no other choice). Do you have your home checked for termites? Well if you do according to your response you are morally corrupt! Those termites did nothing but live and eat (your house). I have every right to remove anything unwanted from my property. I paid for that house and land and I will not let others destroy what I have worked so hard for. That pig is ruining my yard and septic tank which can cost thousands to repair and I doubt I could get one penny from those people to help fix it since they spend it all on drugs!

Hello-

Somehow my younger female guinea pig (who is separated from the /NEUTERED/ males) is pregnant. She is heavy and her nipples are swollen, but she is eating healthy, drinking plenty, coat is shiny and eyes are clear and she is cuddly and happy. She stays in a large cage with another female who adores her- but will she try and harm the babies?

Please give me all the info you know about taking care of pregnant guinea pigs and babies. I thought she was just gaining weight, but I talked with my vet and she is pretty sure she’s pregnant.

Thank you so, so much!

I asked a question yesterday about ‘miniature’ (teacup) pot bellied pigs.

My aunt wants one to give to my uncle for christmas. I heard that these teacup pigs only live about 5 years because after 3 years their organs outgrow their bodies. My aunt put a deposit down on one of these little guys last night. We saw the mother, she was about 50lbs. The woman says that the piglets are weened but when I went to her house with my aunt, the piglets were still suckling the mothers milk. I asked the woman about it and she said that "the mother gives them a little milk here and there but they’re on pig food now" (which is some type of pellet food).

She said that the life expectancy of these piglets are about 12-18 years but when I looked up teacup pigs, it says that their life expectancy is only about 5 years. My aunt is going to buy one of the little guys. The woman said that Julia Roberts owns one of her ‘teacups’ and she’s been on animal planet two times. The woman also said that these piglets can get to be about 50lbs.

So, since the pig can get to be up to 50lbs, is it really a ‘teacup’? I read that real teacup piglets can only get up to about 30lbs. Or is it just a normal smaller sized pot bellied pig?
the babies are 11 1/2 weeks old by the way. She also said that the mother had another batch of pigs about 4 months ago but she sold all of them.

I have an adult boar guinea pig that I’ve owned for three years now. I do my best to spend as much snuggle/cuddle time with him as I can on a daily basis, but recently I’ve gotten a new job that requires more of my attention. I want to adopt another male piggie (I don’t want a female because I can’t care for little guinea pig babies; and I don’t want to neuter my male because of the risks) so he can have a friend and not be too lonely. But I’m wary of a few things:

1. Since my boar that I own now has been the only one living here for three years, is it likely that he won’t welcome a newcomer because of territory issues?

2. Would it be more or less safe to try and adopt a baby or juvenile male? Ergo, would he feel like his territory is less threatened by a baby/young male and welcome them more easily, or would they just become ‘easy pickings’?

3. ASSUMING I find another boar with whom my present boar will get along, how should I first introduce them to each other? Should I keep them in separate cages for a while first, should I put a divider temporarily in the same cage (I have a 2×4 grid C&C cage) until they get comfortable with each other, or something else entirely perhaps?

I understand that not all guinea pigs are alike, and that it depends largely on the individual that would dictate how well two of them would get along. My main question is that, given that my boar has been on his own since I’ve had him, should I or should I not get a friend for him at this point, and take the possible risk of them fighting?

my guinea pig is pregnant! does she need special care? i was just wondering because i got 3 guinea pigs 1 month and a half ago, i know i got all female but i think when my guineapig was at the pet store it got pregnant, they had separate cages for male and females but i think one got mistaken for a female. so i was wondering what food i should feed snickers(my female guinea pig), she should give birth to her babies this week cause i feel them kicking in her little(or should i say big) tummy.

Okay.. so I’ve had my little guy for… well.. I can’t exactly remember… Definitely over a year. Not more than two years I think.

When I got him, he was already old. I felt so bad when I looked at him all sad looking in the corner. At the pet store he was all alone because he was older than all the other ones. And no one wanted him cuz you know how everyone just goes crazy over the babies! hahaha. I don’t know how old a gerbil has to be in order to be considered an adult. When the pet store lady took him out of him cage, she picked him up by his tail only after chasing him around and put him in a cardboard box. I took him home. (:

Since I saw the lady at the pet store pick up my gerbil this way, I always assumed it’s the right way. I was mortified, absolutely mortified to discover just recently that this is not the proper way! How does one properly pick up a gerbil?

Because I got my gerbil when he was an adult.. he doesn’t really enjoy human contact. He will occassionally let me pet his head for a few seconds then the little ball of energy just runs away. Is it neccessary for gerbils to have human contact like guinea pigs and rabbits? Will putting him in his little play-rolling-ball type thing outside his cage help him become more social?

My mom used to breed gerbils when she was in her 20s, and our family is full of pet-lovers so he’s properly cared for. He has about.. hmm.. I want to say a 15 gallon.. possibly even 20 gallon tank to run around in. I got the cage from a woman who had previously had some hamsters. The wheel is attached and hangs from the cover if that makes sense.. so he can go under the wheel as well. He has a small food dish, and a small wooden house about 4in. by 4in. Does he have enough room to run around? I put lots of bedding for him to burrow in, he always throws it to one side of the cage and makes little tunnels. hahaha.

Thank you so much for taking your time to read and answer my question!!!
