How to show my parents that I do take care of my guinea pig?

Hi! Ok, so I have a guinea pig named Oreo. I really want to get a rabbit (not for them to play with each other) but my parents say that I don’t take care of my guinea pig! I’m not asking for advice on how to get a rabbit, that’s not what’s bugging me. Its the fact that whenever I ask for something (even if I have my own money) they say that I don’t take care of the pet that I have now and that I cant even take care of myself. Well, I do. I change my guinea pigs bedding when i should, I play with him, and I feed him/give him water/etc. Yes, I will admit that sometimes I don’t play with him everyday or give him fresh veggies every time i see him (which I’m pretty sure you shouldn’t anyway). I regret it when i don’t though! I play with him when i can. They think that anytime they see him its just because i want something. That’s not true! Also, they say that I cant take care of myself because i dont brush my hair the second i get out of the shower! WHAT!? So anyway, like i said i dont need advice just because I want the rabbit. I want to show my parents that i do take care of my guinea pig without making it too obvious, then they think that its just because i want something. If they just so happen to see my playing with him when they come into my room they go oh look, oreo’s out because Victoria wants something. It makes me so frustrated! So do you guys have any tips on what I’m doing wrong and how to fix this?!? Thanks so much! =)
Oh nd the reason that they dont see me playing with him is because I have a dog who doesnt bother him at all but sometimes scares the crap out of him so I play with him outside or in my room, not the living room. I play with him everyday! (when i say don’t I mean at least a few minutes or as much as I can)
Thanks! So any tips for getting the rabbit too…? =)

What daily care does a guinea-pig need?

i had a guinea pig like 5 years ago when i was 9 (im almost 15 now). for my bday this year (in late, late july) i want a new one! since i was 9 i cant remember much on how to take care of it :\ .. can someone fill me in? i remember having to clean the cage out once a week.. ok well my dad did that while i occupied Maxwell (his name). (btw he died after a year, he had something called Bloat and there wasnt anything we could do about it). I also remember cleaning out his food dish and filling it with new food everyday and cleaning up after his poo. i gave him these little salt round white guineapig candy thing for him to naw his teeth on but thats all i remember. i remember it wasnt too hard, then again my parents helped…alot… now i think i can take care of one all on my own. is there any additional care im forgetting about? also can i use newspapers for the bedding of the cage instead of the bedding you buy in petstores? (cause i could just remove it & the poo on it, then clean the cage out, it would be so much easier than the bedding in the stores).

Best pet in an aquarium?

Okay people. I have enough room for a 29 gallon tank. I want some nice pets to go in the space. Here are the criteria:

Must eat frozen/dry food (I’ve done the whole cricket thing and it’s not my cup of tea)
Must not be terribly stinky. I can stand a little stench but not a ton.
Preferably able to be handled, but doesn’t NEED to be handled to be happy.
Low maintenance- I had fish, but I don’t like water changes/live plants/etc. I am fine with weekly bedding changes, though.

I am currently thinking gerbils or a ball python if I can convince the parents! I have a guinea pig, but i want something energetic and fun. I don’t much like guinea pigs because they are rather slow. I am very experienced in keeping pets- I have kept many and I am definitely able to provide proper care. Thanks so much!
I would like a rat, but I would have to get two which I don’t have room for, unfortunately. I have heard that hamsters can be biters, so I am hesitant. Thanks for the answers! Any more?

How much does it cost to care for guinea pigs?

I am thinking about getting guinea pigs (two girls probably) and am trying to figure out how much it would cost on a monthly basis to care for them. I know the initial costs with the cage and such but am curious about what it costs to keep them monthly because of food, bedding, etc. Any help is much appreciated!

How does one properly pick up a gerbil? And other random gerbil questions… 5 points for the best answer?

Okay.. so I’ve had my little guy for… well.. I can’t exactly remember… Definitely over a year. Not more than two years I think.

When I got him, he was already old. I felt so bad when I looked at him all sad looking in the corner. At the pet store he was all alone because he was older than all the other ones. And no one wanted him cuz you know how everyone just goes crazy over the babies! hahaha. I don’t know how old a gerbil has to be in order to be considered an adult. When the pet store lady took him out of him cage, she picked him up by his tail only after chasing him around and put him in a cardboard box. I took him home. (:

Since I saw the lady at the pet store pick up my gerbil this way, I always assumed it’s the right way. I was mortified, absolutely mortified to discover just recently that this is not the proper way! How does one properly pick up a gerbil?

Because I got my gerbil when he was an adult.. he doesn’t really enjoy human contact. He will occassionally let me pet his head for a few seconds then the little ball of energy just runs away. Is it neccessary for gerbils to have human contact like guinea pigs and rabbits? Will putting him in his little play-rolling-ball type thing outside his cage help him become more social?

My mom used to breed gerbils when she was in her 20s, and our family is full of pet-lovers so he’s properly cared for. He has about.. hmm.. I want to say a 15 gallon.. possibly even 20 gallon tank to run around in. I got the cage from a woman who had previously had some hamsters. The wheel is attached and hangs from the cover if that makes sense.. so he can go under the wheel as well. He has a small food dish, and a small wooden house about 4in. by 4in. Does he have enough room to run around? I put lots of bedding for him to burrow in, he always throws it to one side of the cage and makes little tunnels. hahaha.

Thank you so much for taking your time to read and answer my question!!!
