I just got two guinea pigs and I am looking for any ideas for bedding. Tell me what you think is the easiest way to keep the cage clean. I know very little because these are my first guinea pigs.

Hey everyone!

I’ve had my guinea pig, Peanut, for about 3 months now and she is doing great!
I have made a little area for her to run around once a day by using storage cubes and making a wall so she can’t escape and I put an Oatmeal container in there for her to run around in.
In her cage she has a food bowl, hay, bedding and a water bottle.
I think I’m taking good care of her but I have to big questions!

1.) Does anyone have tips or suggestions on how I can try and litter train my piggie because that would make it so much easier to clean her cage, considering the amount she poops! haha

2.) Can I have some tips on making a really cool house for Peanut or just anything that will make her nice and happy?

-do they need fleece or bedding?
-girl or boy? what one is nicer?
-are they nice? do they bite?

I have done plenty of research- every day! i currently own a gerbil so i know they need fresh food and water every day. i clean his cage once a week.
Oh yeah! a guestion about my gerbil…
- he lives alone. will his life span be shortened since he is alone? sometimes he seems lonely. oh gosh i hope not lol

I was really looking into buying a little cavy. I’ve been reading about them and learning how to properly take care of them. I was thinking about getting just ONE little guinea pig (yes it’s probably best to buy two) but I’d like to but one, just to see how I’d make out, and if I find a guinea pig is the right pet for me I’ll buy my first one a buddy (a second piggy). I need some good advice on caring for a guinea pig… so what would you guys recomend??

I found a cage that’s 36 inches long, although I have no clue how wide it is… Anyone know a great cage I could get (yes I’ve read about C&C cages I don’t know how exspensive they get)

what kind of food is best for them? And also what kind of bedding could I use chopped up newspaper or regualr paper?

What toys do they like (I’ve seen they don’t do well with wheels and balls/leashes)

Do they require a lot of attention if you only buy one guinea pig

Do they get used to their owner and actually love to be with them/handled
hah… uhm someone suggested a heavy duty tote box?? what exactally is that, and where could I but one? …

Can someone please give me some quick pointers to care for a gunea pig as this will be my first guinea pig
i will just mention i can care for an animal as i have 2 dogs and a cat at the moment and they are all doing great
i will also mention that i realize it is better for the guniea pig if i have 2 but i can only get one at the moment so what would be the best way to keep one by itself happy?
i want to keep it in my room so it is away from the dogs and i thinik it could be best to keep it in a big fish tank in my room as i do have the cat indoors but i keep my bedroom door shut all the time so my cat doesn’t come in…i only want to keep it in a fish tank for the day that my cat COULD come in my room….i DO plan to lock up the dogs once a day so the guinea pig can have a bit of a run around the back yard without worrying about the dogs
so what other ways could i care for the guinea pig?

I just bought my sona guinea pig and she is so sweet and gentle, but she makes such a huge mess of bedding on the floor around her cage. I would like to keep this area neat. At petsmart and online I have found a wide variety of fabric seed guards for bird cages. It is basically fabric with elastic and it fits over the lower part of the cage and keeps seeds from flying out onto the floor. I can’t find anything like this for guinea pigs and I was wondering if it would be safe to use or is there some reason they arn’t manufactured for small animals. Oh, and her cage is a solid metal base that goes up about 4 inches, with wire on top. Does anyone have an suggestions if not the seed guard?
As a response to the person below, I said it was solid metal on the bottom. The wire surrounds the top of the cage and sides. Not the bottom where he walks.

It needs to be somewhere in the uk, i dont mind if its online.
also, what sort of bedding should i use? the piggies i **plan** on moving into the cage are used to sawdust and hay, but i love the idea of fleeces and towels!! (if its a yes for the fleeces and towels, how can i pursuade my mum to let me use them instead of sawdust??)
and any other advice on c&c cage is reeeaaaaaaally welcome!
I also need more pursuading to let my mum let me have a c&c cage. shes nearly there, but i need a few more amazing reasons why i should keep all 5 piggies inside!
(as i type this, the guineas are upstairs getting used to the sounds of the house, and having a bit of floor time whilst nibbling grass, cucumber and sweetcorn!)

I just bought a guinea pig a few weeks ago, and it’s time for me to buy more food, bedding, and hay. The starter kit I bought came with alfafa hay, my guinea pig Reesie is about 15 to 18 weeks old now, should I continue giving her alfafa hay or switch to timothy? How long should I let her eat alfafa hay for?

Okay my daughter wants "her very own" guinea pig. We already have another.

For One Pig:

Bedding a week
Pellets Every 2 weeks
Orange, Carrots, Lettuce A week
Toys and Chew Toys Every 2 weeks

That is a total of 6 a month

Any advice for providing for a guniea pig on a super LOW budget?

Ok so my friend has this guinea pig that she got four years ago and doesnt really like any more. They feed him and change his bedding but thats about it. Hes afraid of being held and his nails baddly need to be clipped. This year she is going off to boarding school and her mother has asked me several times if I would take the guinea pig. Now that she is going off to a defferent state the guinea pig is going to get even less attention. Ive asked my mom if we can take it but all she says is that the guinea pig isnt her problem and that its their pet. I know she likes guinea pigs but shes says she doesnt want another pet. Is there any way I could convince her to let me take him home. Usually when my mom says no I just drop it but I really want to help this guinea pig. Any suggestions?
