Introducing new guinea pig to established pair?

I have two female guinea pigs who have been together happily for two years now. I will be acquiring a gorgeous little female Rex guinea pig when she is old enough to leave her mum. How do I go about introducing the new youngster to the established pair? They have an Eglu in the conservatory with quite a large sawdust-covered floor space to run around in, with various tunnels and boxes to sit in, and a tunnel leading to an outside run. Where is the best place to put the youngster to start with so that they can best get used to each other? Many thanks in advance for any advice!

12 week rescue guinea pig help please!?

Hi, i got a little guinea pig day before yesterday, shes around 12 weeks old.
She is very very shy, she keeps shaking and wants to stay in her igloo whenever im around. shes a texel, so she has long curly fur but when i tried to stroke her, it feels like she has two fur knots on either side, which cant feel nice. but when i try to touch her she starts to chatter her teeth. so i don’t know how to cut her knots off without frightening her. or should i wait until shes used to me more?

she only seems to come out of her igloo to eat when i go to class or when im asleep. ive tried hand-feeding her a variety of fresh foods today and she only had a nibble of an apple and she just kept turning away from me. so i put the foods in her bowl and left her to it. then all of a sudden, i heard a noise which sounded a bit like a monkey’s "ooh ooh ah ah" its the first time ive ever heard it so im not sure what this sound is called. but when i went to go check her she was still in her igloo with her nose poking out. this is my first guinea pig as you can tell!

PS shes not going to be a lonely piggy for much longer, as shes getting a cage mate in a few weeks, a boy piggy had been neutered at the shelter and they’re waiting until its safe before they allow me to take him.

Easy points for best answer! :-)

MANY THANKS EVERYONE!! xx

Should I get another guinea pig to keep the one i have right now company?

just a few days ago i adopted a guinea pig from Petsmart, and the lady who helped me told me that i can just keep one by itself if i spend lots of time with it. but now im looking online and they say that its best if you keep 2 together so they don’t get bored. the thing is i don’t know how much time you need to spend with them everyday so they don’t get lonely. and because im in school still, i don’t have a whole bunch of time to play with him.

so my main questions are:
*how much time should you spend with them a day?
*should i go ahead and get another guinea pig?
and if you guys have anymore tips you could give me on keeping my little guinea pig happy, i would really like that!

Thanks :)

I really need help . . . I'm emotionally and mentally hurt? (So is my dog!) Help! 10 points to best answer!?

Sorry it’s so long!

Okay, so my brother-in-law "rescued" a dog, Spenser. But . . . My brother-in-law never took care of Spenser. So my parents and I took Spenser in. Then my brother-in-law stopped working. As soon as his little baby girl came along. Apparently, to him it’s perfectly fine for a little girl to live in apartments all her life. Cheap apartments at that. So then my brother-in-law decided that Spenser needs to move to Florida where we’ll never see Spenser again! And only a month and one day after my guinea pig passed away! Spenser’s half chuahuah and half dachsund, and today when I saw a dachsund, I started bawling and worked up a major migraine and a fever from crying so much. And later today I just collapsed on the floor, crumpled up and cried. And my dog, Mar Bellana, loved to play with Spenser, and she refuses to eat or drink much at all, because she’s depressed! And last night when my cousin tried to pet Mar Bellana, I attacked him and said "You’ll act like she’s your’s then rip her away from me like the souless monster my brother-in-law is!" And I started crying. I now have thoughts of suicide, but I’m also way too over-protective of my animals, so I don’t try suicide, which gives me migraines, fevers, etc. I’m also going through puberty, and I’m majorly moody, which doesn’t help. At all.

And when my neice (as I mentioned earlier), Sara, came along, I became suicidal because no one paid attention to me. I choked myself in front of my parents, threatened to run away, said I’d kill myself after I killed them, etc. I was a mess. Now I love her to bits . . . I just thought I’d say that in case it mattered . . .

How do I convince my parents to get me a guinea pig?

I’ve done tons of research on guinea pigs, and I really feel like guinea pigs are the best pet for both my family and me. However, my parents don’t agree. I’ve sat down and outlined all of the care needed for guinea pigs, where to adopt, costs, etc, as well as written up well over twenty pages on their behavior, sounds, and needs. They don’t seem to be budging much. I’m a straight A student in all honors classes, very responsible, and right now I’m stuck trying to think of more ways to convince them. There’s not any deals I can strike with them, because I’m expected to get chores done and get straight A’s without reward. Right now their two biggest concerns are:

1. I’ll get bored of it in a few months. I know I won’t get bored with them, otherwise I wouldn’t ask for one because I realize they can live for a long time, but I don’t know how to convince them otherwise. I admit I do have a short attention span, and lose interest in toys quickly, so that’s why they have this fear. However, guinea pigs are not toys, so I know I’ll love them for as long as they live.

2. What to do with them when we travel. This is one that stumps me; I’ve looked into guinea pig sitters, but couldn’t find any in the phone book. We travel a lot during summer; and my dad says my friends won’t appreciate if I drop them off at their house for a month or so (especially since I plan on building them a C&C Cage, or whatever they’re called).

Anyways, I would appreciate any suggestions for how I can convince them and overcome the above two obstacles. If they don’t give in soon, I might just have to respect their answer and acknowledge that it is their house, but I feel I can try a little bit longer before I cross the line. Thanks in advance for all the answers :D

Help me with my guinea pig care please?

Hey everyone, i recently got a guinea pig and I am a total beginner of raising guinea pigs! So far she is escaping and behaving strangely its okay coz i know its normal im giving her all the space she needs to get acquainted, anywho it has been a week and a few days since ive got her, her name is sneakers…
First of all she starts purring and then squeeling when i brush her fur in the opposite direction, first of all i thought she was purring out of happiness but then i realized she was annoyed so i stopped… Anyways i have saw a bit of improvement but not much she still freezes in my hand and even when i put her on the floor she doesnt walk she jst looks around (btw she is a 1 month old baby) is it normal for her?
Now i got her today some hay i think its timothy hay or somewhat kind but she doesnt seem to touch them she jst lays them on the floor and sleeps on top of them. What should i do?
Third, since we r having a huge heat wave im changing her water with cold one around 4 times a day and before i sleep but i want to make a drip bottle since in my country Guinea pigs r rare to find can someone gimme an idea of the mechanism of the dripping bottle so maybe i can make one from available materials?
I know you are bored of these questions but hey, im a guy and im not used to these kind of pets yet but i have grown attached to her and im caring for her good enough but i have these questions for you guys
any help is appreciate it
i thank u for giving me ur time and ur knowledge
Guys i forgot to mention that she eats her veggies normally but the hay she doesnt eat them yet, she loves her lettuce but i give her a wide variety and an occational small piece of apple once a month coz its not that good for them

Is a Guinea Pig or Rabbit harder to care for?

I’m 13 and can be mature at times :) haha. Lol, I’ve been doing research on rabbit for a few months and read they’re not to hard to care for. Is this true?I’ve always liked rabbits more than guinea pigs but don’t know how hard they’re to care for. My mom owned a guinea pig when I was very young and said it was horrible. Some people say guinea pigs love cuddling while others say they are timid and shy even if you play with them….

So in your opinion or personal experience which is harder to care for?!

Thanks! :)
Add:::; I would litter train the rabbit so pooping and peeing everywhere wouldn’t be a huge issue :)
Lol, and the rabbit itself does not smell. It is their urine which smells. If you clean the litter out everyday/other day it doesn’t smell as bad.

MOther Guinea Pig Won't Take Care of Babies?

OK, my guinea pig Misty just had two more guinea pigs, the first time she had three. We thought our other guinea pig was a girl… Now Misty won’t take care of her newborns? There’s nothing wrong with them, she keeps kicking them out of this castle thing we have in their cage. How do we help Josh and Zac if she won’t take care of them?
ok u second person, u disgust me! why would you kill a small animal! they don’t need their mother to survive if you take care of them like their mother, the thing is, I don’t know what I should give them!
OK Plz help 4 real!
As it turns out, the other guinea pig is the mother so thnk u all anyways! I’ll still pick a best answer though.
