Is there such a thing as a pygmy pot-bellied pig?

I’ve wanted a pet pig for years, but I keep hearing conflicting information about the size they grow to. Some people have told me that they all grow to be around 150 lbs and then I’ve heard about a pygmy breed which stays about the size of the piglets.

I need advice about some newborn pot bellied pigs.?

I pot bellied pig had 6 piglets today. It was very cold out and 4 of them succumbed to the cold. She was not laying on them keeping them warm like she should have been. I have 2 that have survived and I currently have them in the house. I would really like to try to give them back to her to see if she would take to them…every 2 hour feedings does not sound fun to me. But I do not want to do that if she would not take them. It is way too cold!!

Does anyone have any advice?

"teacup" Pot bellied pigs.. another question?

I asked a question yesterday about ‘miniature’ (teacup) pot bellied pigs.

My aunt wants one to give to my uncle for christmas. I heard that these teacup pigs only live about 5 years because after 3 years their organs outgrow their bodies. My aunt put a deposit down on one of these little guys last night. We saw the mother, she was about 50lbs. The woman says that the piglets are weened but when I went to her house with my aunt, the piglets were still suckling the mothers milk. I asked the woman about it and she said that "the mother gives them a little milk here and there but they’re on pig food now" (which is some type of pellet food).

She said that the life expectancy of these piglets are about 12-18 years but when I looked up teacup pigs, it says that their life expectancy is only about 5 years. My aunt is going to buy one of the little guys. The woman said that Julia Roberts owns one of her ‘teacups’ and she’s been on animal planet two times. The woman also said that these piglets can get to be about 50lbs.

So, since the pig can get to be up to 50lbs, is it really a ‘teacup’? I read that real teacup piglets can only get up to about 30lbs. Or is it just a normal smaller sized pot bellied pig?
the babies are 11 1/2 weeks old by the way. She also said that the mother had another batch of pigs about 4 months ago but she sold all of them.

Miniature pot belly pig?

My aunt is going to be getting a miniature pot belly pig for my uncle for Xmas. There is a man that lives near my house who has them. She lives about a 45 minute drive from my house so I’m gonna go to this guy’s house and check out the pigs. I know nothing about pigs. Can you guys please educate me on what is a suitable home for one? and what I should look for while I’m there?

My aunt has 2 dogs, 1 cat and 2 children (ages 7 & 8). She told me that she’d be keeping the pig inside and that she’s going to litter train it.

After she gets the pig she should have is spayed/neutered, correct?
I went to see the ‘miniature pigs’ and they were 75-100 pounds!!! So they werent so miniature after all… I called my aunt and told her that the pigs are too big for her home so she told me that she had found a woman in the paper advertising "miniature tea cup piglets". The woman told my aunt that these ‘tea cup’ pigs are Canadian and that she has been breeding them for over 30 years. She said that the organs outgrow the pig when people breed pigs with hogs. She also said that she provides a vet that will care for the mini’s and she spays/neuters them and gives them all shots before she sells them.

What do u guys think?

Help with Pot belly breeding?

I was planning on breeding my pot belly pig, whose 5 months old now, in the spring. I was wondering a few things…
What is the average price for a stud fee? What should I expect the piglets to sell for? Is it common for the mother to die or get sick from pregnancy? About how many piglets usually make it?

I have a maths question.?

My daughter came home with a question that I have no idea how to help her with. Her math teacher asked the class to work out:

A farmer has 10 sows. Each sow had 14 piglets, 7 of which were sows. How many pigs will he have in 5 years? Indicating working out would be greatly appreciated. I assume each sow gives birth to 7 sows and 7 hogs.
Thanks guys but I think that somewhere in there is exponential growth ie: each of the seven sows has another 14 piglets ect.
Its for high school, Year 10.
There were 10 sows and they gave birth to 14 piglets, seven of which were sows and seven of which were hogs.
I assume that every year the sows birth 7 S’s and 7 H’s.

After three crop failures in a row farmer Jones could not pay his loan at the bank. "Give me one more chance he pleaded. Don’t take my farm, we’ll be broke and homeless."
The bank manager comes up with an idea. "OK, one more chance but not with crops. No one fails at pig farming so we’ll finance the purchase of five sows to start you off. Your neighbor down the road has a boar pig and you’ll have to take your sows to him so the boar can service them. In a few months you should have a bunch of little piglets all ready for market.
Farmer Jones collects the five sows, loads them into his pickup truck, drives to his neighbor and unloads the five sows into the boar’s pen. They then go back to the farm house and have a couple of beers.
When enough time has passed they go back to the boar’s pen and load five happy sows into the pickup. Farmer Jones asks, "What if it didn’t take?"
"That never happens with my boar," replies the neighbor.
"But how can I tell for sure?"
"Look, tomorrow morning observe your sows. If they’re rolling in the mud, it took, if they’re on the grass, call me."
The following morning farmer Jones observed his sows strolling on the grass. He calls his neighbor who instructs him to bring them back. He rounds them up, loads them into the pickup and drives to the boar’s pen where the whole process is repeated.
Unlucky farmer Jones has to load them in the pickup and take them back four times. On the fifth morning he is so worried he can’t look. He stalls for half an hour then asks his wife to look. "I hope they’re not on the grass, dear."
"Well they’re not," says his wife.
"Oh finally, then they’re rolling in the mud!" exclaimed the farmer.
"No…"
"Well what are those fool sows doing?
"Well, four are trying to climb into the pickup and the fifth managed to climb into the cab and is trying to honk the horn!!!"

i am 14 yrs. olld and me and my family are thinking about getting a pot bellied pig =). i would like to hav infromation/good links to how to take care of pigs/piglets the right way. as in do they need litter box,wat we feed him,and basic care needs. also we hav a 12 yrs. old cocker spaniel dog. our dog is very very calm and is it a good idea to hav a pig and a dog, i’ve read that it works fine wirth pigs and dogs but i wanna be sure. thank you soo much.

So, I have recently heard of these ADORABLE, wonderful, perfect-looking little teacup piglets who SUPPOSEDLY stay the same size their entire lives. I have heard horror stories of people tricked into purchasing miniature vietnamese potbellied pigs, and after awhile, the end up looking more like sows. I know that the genes of these new designer piggies are all screwed up because well, hell, that’s what happens when you mess with chromosomes. Anyway, what, where, how, and why would be the reasons to purchase one, and how can I tell if it TRULY is a teacup piglet???
Thank you so much for the information that all of you have supplied me with. I will most definitely go to a piggy shelter and adopt one who hasn’t been treated properly. Lord knows that they deserve it… Thank you thank you thank you!!!!
