thanks everybody! i’m usually not one of those activist people, and horses are my favorite animals (thats how i found the site) but the horses aren’t going to be killed if they can’t find homes, but the pigs will.

question on keeping chickens?
so we are moving very soon to a house on five acres. we are definitely getting chickens. i want about 10 of these breeds (10 all together): ri reds, banned rock, and buff orpingtons, and easter eggers. i also want some silkies. all of them would be hens but i want a silkie rooster because i want to breed silkies for fun, but not alot. i dont want the rooster to breed with any of the other hens so should i make him his own little ark pen. i dont want him to be lonley so should i keep one of the silkie hens with him that i want him to breed with or would he be fine alone. also, the big group of hens will be free range around the property during the day and in a large chicken coop/tractor at night or if they need to go inthere other times on their own. the rooster (and possibly the silkie hen that goes with him) could be free range because of the reason i listed above. will they be sad or cage crazy (could i put them in my pig yard with a potbellied pig? thanks!

I sent my cat to live in a barn. He was peeing in the house. I miss him. Did I do the right thing?
We found a great farm for him, and there is a family there to give him food. There is also a potbellied pig and chickens in a chicken coop. He will have a good life there, and since he’s not ‘adoptable’ in a shelter setting due to his age (12 years) and potty habits, there weren’t many other options for him. (He does know how to be outside, and also how to catch mice). This way, I didn’t have to put him to sleep. That would have been hard for me to live with. But I still feel guilty about sending him away and worry he’ll feel sad. Did I do the right thing?
His potty habits had been going on for years and getting worse. I’ve had years to try to think about what do to about this. We also have two young children now, and the final straw was that he was peeing on their toys. It was a behavoral thing, and not something that could be fixed despite having him checked by a doctor, and trying other of the usual suggestions.
And his *is* neutered.
Farm family are kind people that my mother-in-law knows.
Territorial Marking or just being Stubborn????
I have a male potbellied pig that is NOT yet neutured! He is about 6 weeks old! Sometimes he goes in the litter box and then other times he goes wherever he pleases…mainly on carpets and rugs, i even caught him going on the pillow where he sleeps! So is he marking his territory or just being stubborn?

Hey! Well, I got a Potbellied pig on December 14th last year. He’s turning one in a few weeks, and I was wondering if it’s okay to buy him a cake? I don’t want him to get sick, but the person who gave me him said they can eat anything. Also, sometimes he steals cookies out of the pantry :] Soo.. Is it okay if he get’s a cake?? Thanks! i have a friend and we are both obsessed with pigs and i am on the waiting list for a penny well pig but thats 3 years to come to america.but she has a 15 year old toy poodle and she said that when she dies she willprobably get a potbellied pig,but i know if she does shell just use it to rub in my face as an "i got one first,i like them more kind of thing" and she said she will bringit to school when her mom picks her up and that stuff.oh and plus she told me not to tell anyone because it isa secret because if she gets one she wants to suprise everyone at school and her mom will get mad at her ifshe tells but she told a girl she HATES, so what should i do?
