Introducing new guinea pig to established pair?

I have two female guinea pigs who have been together happily for two years now. I will be acquiring a gorgeous little female Rex guinea pig when she is old enough to leave her mum. How do I go about introducing the new youngster to the established pair? They have an Eglu in the conservatory with quite a large sawdust-covered floor space to run around in, with various tunnels and boxes to sit in, and a tunnel leading to an outside run. Where is the best place to put the youngster to start with so that they can best get used to each other? Many thanks in advance for any advice!

How do I convince my parents to get me a guinea pig?

I’ve done tons of research on guinea pigs, and I really feel like guinea pigs are the best pet for both my family and me. However, my parents don’t agree. I’ve sat down and outlined all of the care needed for guinea pigs, where to adopt, costs, etc, as well as written up well over twenty pages on their behavior, sounds, and needs. They don’t seem to be budging much. I’m a straight A student in all honors classes, very responsible, and right now I’m stuck trying to think of more ways to convince them. There’s not any deals I can strike with them, because I’m expected to get chores done and get straight A’s without reward. Right now their two biggest concerns are:

1. I’ll get bored of it in a few months. I know I won’t get bored with them, otherwise I wouldn’t ask for one because I realize they can live for a long time, but I don’t know how to convince them otherwise. I admit I do have a short attention span, and lose interest in toys quickly, so that’s why they have this fear. However, guinea pigs are not toys, so I know I’ll love them for as long as they live.

2. What to do with them when we travel. This is one that stumps me; I’ve looked into guinea pig sitters, but couldn’t find any in the phone book. We travel a lot during summer; and my dad says my friends won’t appreciate if I drop them off at their house for a month or so (especially since I plan on building them a C&C Cage, or whatever they’re called).

Anyways, I would appreciate any suggestions for how I can convince them and overcome the above two obstacles. If they don’t give in soon, I might just have to respect their answer and acknowledge that it is their house, but I feel I can try a little bit longer before I cross the line. Thanks in advance for all the answers :D

GOOD Guinea pig books??

There is not a guinea pig book that I have seen that DOESN’T say the best guinea pig book ever. Clearly, they are lairs. I am looking for a book that contains every detail in owning a guinea pig. I know enough to get me through the day, (as so to speak) but not enough to but one. I want to be extremely knowledgeable, even if the book is 999,999,999,999,999 pages. I am looking for a book that covers every detail in owning a piggy. Please keep it to things found in a bookstore or library. I don’t like to order things online. Suggestions are EXTREMELY appreciated as while a books I should not read because the offer little info, ect.

Thanks in advance,
~Sandy

Why does my dog get filthy all the time?

My dog is a small terrier. Worst of all, she’s completely white -.- this bugs me a lot… I know of some long haired dogs, like my neighbor’s golden retriever, that get washed only occasionally, not nearly as much as my dog gets washed, and they still smell and look better than my dog. She’s a little pig – if she gets the chance, she’ll wallow around in my tortoise’s poo… If I keep a better eye on her and comb her daily, if I get the best of luck she’ll smell clean for maybe a week. She goes to the pet salon about once every 3 months or so, and has her fur all shortened up and clean. After the trip to the salon, she smells like a flower for a month, but then… she has pee in the fur of her back legs, as they are dragged on the floor when she tries to pee. Her white fur turns into grey and yellow. She stinks. I can’t even comb her, as she stinks even worse afterwards… I can’t think of a solution to this problem. She is a wire-haired dog, and I can’t wash her more often than every 3 weeks because her rough fur would turn into silky, and we don’t want that to happen. What do you suggest I should do? Thanks in advance

Do you think my son will like these shoes?

I went shopping online today for my kids. Early Christmas shopping. Anyway, I bought my son some shoes but he has really low self esteem. Do you think he’ll like them?

A question about piglets..?

My son is wanting a piglet, not so much a potbellied piglet, but he would take that also, but he really just wants one. It seems very hard to narrow a place down on the internet to find out information on them, such as health and food, plus prices on breeds, he wants it for a pet only. This is not because of the movie either he has wanted one since summer but while we were researching everyone said that it wasn’t the time of year to get them??? Any info would be helpful, thanks..especially the age to acquire and what time of year they are born..? Thanks in advance..I know they get very big and there are different breeds, we do not want this for meat please only as a pet..Pigs are smart.

Guinea Pig Questions?

I’ve had my long-haired guinea pig (Muppet) for going on 2 years now. I don’t know anyone else with guinea pigs so I don’t have anyone to ask these questions to. I guess I’ve been doing things a certain way with Muppet and I’m curious to see if other people do the same or differently. And I’m also looking for some advice.

1. Pooping in his house:
He used to go to the bathroom in a corner in his cage, but for a while now he’s been going just in his house. How can I change this? Should I get some kind of litter stuff and put in the corner (I feel like he might just turn his nose up at it)?

2. Staying in his house:
He actually rarely comes out of it, unless he’s eating. He’ll drag his house around the cage so he doesn’t need to exit it, it’s sort of funny actually. I wondered if it has been the winter months and maybe he is just cold. But it’s kind of new behavior. How can I encourage him to come out of his house? (maybe ziptie it to the cage wall so he can’t drag it with him?)

3. Veggies:
I wonder if I feed him too many veggies (he chooses this over his pellet food) – a handful of carrots and/or spinnach every morning and evening. How many veggies do you give your pigs?

4. Cage Size:
I want to get him a bigger cage, but they are so expensive! How big is your (single) pig’s cage? Any suggestions for places to buy online?

5. Cleaning:
How often do you clean your pig’s cage?

OK that’s all I’ve got. Thanks in advance for your advice!
