I just adopted two guinea pigs 2 days ago, one is 1 month and the other is 3 months, what happened is that the 3 months one (charlie), is not really nice so i was trying to pet him more and i felt like 4 little hard chunks in his skin, when i tried to see he moved and scratched me, then i kept trying to look at them, and i saw something like a grey and black little hard chunk of something, it wasn’t attached to his skin so i took it off and it resulted to be a piece of hard skin with a lot of hair still in it, his skin were that was was pink, and there is still many other little chunks that i haven’t been able to see really good, im really worried, is this bad ? i don’t really have money for take him to the vet if it isn’t important so i wanted to check with people that already had guinea pigs, not i did not pull it out hard like it would hurt him or anything. did this happened to you? is it normal? or is something bad that i should worry more about?

Well, is not really from a shelter.

I haven’t seen him itching or biting it. but it looks like it hurts to him because he doesn’t like when i touch him there.
And i looked for mites, but the scab or the pink skin with-no hair is not really noticeable, is smaller than what i saw, but they are in his back most of them…

best way to make a dog….?

I have two dogs a black lab(spartan) and a hybrid(sam) both males weigh pefect but I know my vet is going to tell me since it is fall and winter is coming soon I will need to fatten them up just a little so before my dogs have to go to the vets I wanted to go ahead and fatten up.I am feeding them extra but still are not gaining weight?So here are some facts:both are very active high energy dogs,go on long 1 hour 2 hour walks in the field sometimes longer,they live outside,come inside at times,get fed human food.not always(I know,shame on me just only meat except pig),always eat their food every last bit,they eat the same food never switch,they have different brands of food to fit their different needs,their food is for high active dogs,both are completly healthy,sometimes they are tied up,put in a kennel,in the house,or just running around in the yard,I live on the country side,they are 6 months(spartan),1 year(sam).So what can I do to make them gain weight

hi there i have taken my guinea pig to the vets a few months ago when a I rescued him he came from a family that didn’t take proper care of him he was very very jumpy hes calming down now i can pet him and my partner can pick him up little nervous still he was losing all his fur the vet says it was because of he was llonelyso my question is
i am ddefinitelygetting him a friend but hes around 2-3 should i pair him with a male or female hes nnurtured he dosent bite the vet says a female would be best im not sure

How to take care of a pregnant guinea pig?

Hello-

Somehow my younger female guinea pig (who is separated from the /NEUTERED/ males) is pregnant. She is heavy and her nipples are swollen, but she is eating healthy, drinking plenty, coat is shiny and eyes are clear and she is cuddly and happy. She stays in a large cage with another female who adores her- but will she try and harm the babies?

Please give me all the info you know about taking care of pregnant guinea pigs and babies. I thought she was just gaining weight, but I talked with my vet and she is pretty sure she’s pregnant.

My nine month old pot bellied pig limped on his leg for about three days, until yesterday he could hardly get up at all. When he tried he acted and made sounds like it was very painful and his legs folded underneath him. I have a vet coming here around 6:00 today. I was just wondering does anyone know what this could be and what are some things the vet will probably tell me.

hi recued a guinea pig more than a few months ago , hes extremely twitchy rubs hit back end across the floor , if u touch his back he will bite his back not you , he like shakes his head to the side like a twitch as well never had a guinea pig before i did loads of Researchh before i got him but i cat find anything that explain this sort of behaviorr i don’t no whats up with him or if this is normal he also has ruff skin when u touch it looks a little bald
P.S i have a vet oppoiment for him tonight

Pot Belly Pig Paralysis?

My mom found her pot belly pig this morning, unable to walk on her front legs. She began favoring one leg approx. 2 weeks ago, and they figured she must have just hurt it somehow and that time would heal it. It actually seemed to be getting better, but then this morning, both legs seem to be paralyzed.
Does anyone have a clue what might be going on?
The vet put the pig down. He’s not sure what caused it, but she was suffering. My mom is broken.

Any way to get cheap Guinea pig vet care in phoenix arizona?

My guinea pig has bald spots and and im 99 percent sure it’s mites. But every vet i find wants to charge a fifty dollar exam fee so they can say "yep, it’s mites all right- here’s a bill for another 70 dollars worth of meds." Honestly that’s ridiculous and i don’t have enough money for that, so do any of you know a way i get get out of this money-sucking trap? A discount vet, or any kind of help in the Surprise or Phoenix Arizona area?

I love my pig, i don’t want to be the kind of pet owner that lets animals suffer, but i just can’t afford over a hundred dollars on something like this.

pot belly pig skin problems?

My landlady’s pot belly pig has started hanging out with us, and we
like her a lot! But she has very dry skin, looks very scaly. She
also has pig lice and she is too thin, she needs deworming. Is there
anything we can do to help her skin? Would lice make her skin dry and
scaly, or is that a seperate issue?
look I know you guys want to get your points by giving a useless answer to my question, but you are diluting the effectiveness of a question and answer forum. I am not so stupid that I don’t know she needs to go to a vet. I was just looking for some input from people who have pigs and know about pigs. So if you’re just going to say "take her to a vet" you don’t deserve 5 points, because that is not an answer to the question posed.
