why do they have to torture slaughterhouse animals ?
sorry but if you’re going to talk about how meat is good and your going to eat a "big juicy steak" please just hit the back button or close the tab cause it’s really not funny …
i understand some people eat meat . i understand they won’t stop . i understand people raise animals to slaughter them for food but i have one question WHY do they have to torture them ? i don’t get why you can’t just raise a cow or a pig or a chicken or whatever , give it a happy, healthy life , then you can slaughter it in a humane way . i don’t get why some farmers ( note i’m not saying ALL farmers ) have to hang them upside down and cut off their head , cut their beak off , kick them , electrocute them to get eggs out , stuff them in tiny cages , steal cows babies so they can take their milk and make veal out of the babies … the list goes on .
why is the world like this ? why aren’t there laws against this ?
i’m not trying to get you all to be vegetarian . i said at the beginning i understand some people eat meat and i can’t stop that . i’m just sure we all have the heart to feel bad for these animals …
i’m sorry if you are a farmer please don’t take this the wrong way
i didn’t say all farmers did this i said some do … i completely understand that many farmers are nice to their animals like pets … i’m not accusing them all of doing this i’m just saying some do and i am asking why ..

Dunno. Maybe people get their sick kicks from it. They can’t-or won’t kill humans so they result to animals? Plus, I’m not sure but it seems like a simple shot could cost a lot. I’m totally with you though, but petitions don’t ever seem to work. I’m not sure if people can get through to those hard-heads.

It’s been the advent of ‘factory farms’ that has caused a lot of the animal torture.
Maximizing profits, and no concern for the animals involved.
Most good farmers know that well treated animals make for healthy animals.
I eat a lot of meat, but I try to buy free-range chicken/eggs, as well as meat from local sources so I know how they operate.
I don’t like giving money to corporations anyway.

I think the short answer is that farm animals are generally killed in the most efficient, cheapest way possible. That may not be the most humane way and usually isn’t. As for giving the animal a good life, that would likely cost more and cut into profit and or cause the price to the consumer to go up. People are generally not willing to pay more for this.
That is the the ugly truth.

people have their ideas of right and wrong, some people find if funny to abuse animals, and some people dont.
we need resources from animals
farmers hang them upside down to get a clean cut.

The answer is money. Corporations that run these slaughterhouses want the animals slaughtered in a way that is beneficial to their pocketbook. That is how business is run. There is nothing inherently wrong with that. Slaughtering animals is an ugly business. That’s the way it is. And there are laws against the abuse of animals in slaughter houses. There are rules even in war. If the companies are in violation of the rules then they should be penalized. If they are not in violation, but you just don’t like the way the animals are treated, then you will just have to live with it.

I totally agree with you!
I hate how they torture those poor animals!!
I mean, maybe i’d eat meat again if they were killed after
they lived a happy life, not hung upside down to get skinned
alive, i was watching this documentary about animal slaughter…
You should have seen those pigs, those people say "Oh yeah i thought
it was dead!" but im pretty sure you know its alive when its kicking
and squealing while their shocking it with a tazor and beating it to death with a bat or a metal bar,
Its horrible and barbaric! i thought animal abuse/cruelty was one of the top 10 laws?! they should really do something about this!

All they care about is profits. There should be a law against it, I agree. But don’t let it get you down. There is bad in the world, but also a lot of good. Just think about the bad and donate to charities to try and help lessen the bad. Don’t donate to peta though, the profits go to illeal organisations. Donate to make poverty history and stuff like that. Good karma=long happy life:)

I agree 100% with you, i wish there was a way it could be turned around and the people doing that could see how its like to be kicked and thrown around, i mean they act like animals dont have feeling to and animals dont have lives. It would bring so much justice if they could feel all the pain and suffering that the animals they have killed and beat felt. anyone who doesnt feel this way can go to hell because karma is a b*tch and its gonna turn right on you. it makes me so mad how some people just dont care and go along with luxury lives even though they dont f*cking deserve it.
like the person under me can go to hell, you stupid FFA member, you know people are skinning animals and abusing them right? you know animals are being harvested right? you know they get abused when they are on farms? obviously not,so dont insult our intelligence and go take a look at you own and view the facts on animals being abused for agriculture reasons.

There are laws about this! Uneducated people like you make me sick!
Farmers who abuse their animals are few and far between. We DO take care of our animals. We give them names, brush them, pet them, talk to them… etc. Just like you city folk do your cats and dogs. We even give them treats on occasion!
We don’t torture our animals. Plain and simple. Our chickens even get prime treatment on our farm.
When we go to slaughter a pig, cow, sheep, whatever, we do everything possible to make them not feel anything.
I have NEVER heard of a farmer that electrocutes a chicken to get the eggs out. Personally, I believe it’s fabricated story a bunch of vegans made up to convince people to quit eating animal products.
Calves MUST be weaned from their mothers. I don’t know if you realized this or not, but you were taken from your mother to an extent too. At one point, your mother quit breastfeeding you. That’s just the way it is for cows.
Also, I hope you know that the calves that are made for veal are specifically bred for veal. They aren’t bred to live their life. And if they do live a normal life, they’ll have all sorts of defects, and the cow will be killed anyway. Better be killed for a reason than not at all, right?
Farm animals are raised for a purpose. That purpose is to become food. If everyone on earth became vegetarian and vegan 5 years ago, do you know what our economy would be like now???
I really wish people like you would get out there and LEARN about what really happens on farms instead of making up your own stories and ideas.
You can’t feel bad for these animals. They don’t have the same mental capacity as we do. Think about a cow. How big is their brain? It weighs less than a pound! Their mental capacity is no more than "Am I hungry?" "Am I comfortable?" "Am I safe?" "Am I thirsty?" And "Am I happy?". They don’t spend their days worrying about being killed.
The problem with you people is that you attach too much human emotion to these animals.
I also want you to think of this. What would happen if you didn’t tie the chicken up before you cut it’s head off? Do you know what would happen? You’d have a crazy chicken running all over the place, bleeding like a mad man, flapping it’s wings like nobody’s business while the head is laying on the stump where you left it. Not a pretty sight, eh?
PS, mutilation of animals wont get farmers what they want. You can’t sell a bruised pig. You can’t sell a one footed or beak-less bird to anyone in their right mind. You won’t get any eggs from a chicken in a tiny cage, and, also, good luck holding onto your life after you’ve kicked a cow, sheep or pig; and good luck finding a chicken you can get close enough to kick.

Mass factory farming and production to meet the mass demand for it. They wouldn’t have mass factory farming if there wasn’t such a big market for it. In other words, go vegetarian. Same for millions of animals euthanised in animal shelters every year. Wouldn’t happen if more people understood the importance of spay and neuter. Ignorance perpetuates the violence and killing. As for ich bin dick down there, honey, go stuff it. We know the truth. You need to educate yourself.

You can support the fair treatment of animals by getting your meat and dairy from local farms. Big industries will treat animals like shit, but if you buy organic you are buying from people who treat animals well.
I’m vegan and I don’t think I can will myself to eat meat, but any meat-eaters out there should buy local! Just think about the animals.
EDIT: That ick girl has to be a troll. Nobody is that stupid when it comes to factory farms. I knew that chickens lived in little uncomfortable cages by the time I was in elementary school. Come on!

I want to primarily tell you that I respect the strength of character you show by living a meat free lifestyle. That takes dedication I don’t think I could muster. I do feel that we should eat less meat and more vegtables and grains. This is primarily an ecological and or economic reason.
I was raised on a farm. I live in a rural area where farm animals are raised both free range and the more modern "factory" farm method. First, no farmer in their right mind would torture ANY animal. Folks with sick minds generally don’t have the mental fortitude that agribusiness requires. Second (this is my guess NOT a hard fact) almost all calves are weaned from their mother at nearly the same time as the cow herself weans them. Too early and the calves don’t grow well. Too late and you lose productivity. In dairy cows the calves are taken away from the cow very early so the cow will produce milk for sale. I have personally raised these calves and believe me they are treated well. For eggs to be produced in the volume needed the chickens are nearly all grown in the factory method. I honestly do not like the factory method and prefer the free range method of production. The reason farmers use the factory method is to feed humans. If all the milk, eggs, and meat were to be grow free range we would need to have at LEAST 30% of the american population engaged in raising food. Growing free range is actually ecologically DEVASTATING as cows need huge pastures, hogs root up everthing they find, and chickens are just nasty to have around anything as they climb on and crap everywhere. All the streams would be choked with algea, weeds, or worse so infested with deadly nemotodes and bacteria the water would be a cess pool. As to the drugs and horomones that farmers use you will find most require an applicators licence. Do any of you folks living in the city understand how and why to use or not use the various chemicals you spray in your yards. City water run off is nasty in that many insecticides are long term toxins or horomones that do who knows what to the environment. To use any of these as recklessly as our urban partners would get any farmer fined or sued. Many farmer don’t use nearly the amount of drugs that we give to our own children. Just look at the idiotic commercials where every little booboo must be treated with an antibiotic. If we put this much wasteful drug use into our herd animals we would not only go broke but all our neighbors would hold us in total contempt. In the future the waste from factory farms will be used to create methane and other fuels and bio chemicals. This is begining today and will increase as oil gets more expensive.
Just so folks know most agrarian societies have almost NO CASH to spend on luxury items. So don’t all you city folk come running to live to good farm life because most of you would hate it. There is a reason so many people live in the city. And there is also a reason many people live in the country.
I feel the primary rational for factory farms is to genuinely feed people and keep this country healthy. If you want to see REAL sadistic cruelty just wait till all the grain is used to make fuel for wealthy car owners and the middle class just gets to starve! Then talk about torture and cruelty.

Beth + HM Fan give the best answers so far
but I will add that the slaughterhouse people
will tell you that if they kill the animal in old
age, the meat will be tougher.
The most envious people work in slaughterhouses
and they are inherently viscious, heartless people.
Okay, they might do a little charity here and there
to attempt to fill a void that will never be filled but
the damage they do to this world is much, much
greater.
And what about those strange chemicals and hormones they
inject into the cattle? Did you know that in the 1950s
arsenic was once used as a preservative?
Please don’t be naive enough to think that the scientists
involved in work like this have any concern for the health
and safety of the people eating the meat.
Sick people bring TRILLIONS of $$$ to the medical
industry and persons who aid and quietly promote
this effort are born everyday.
Ever wonder why Skull + Bones is
also known as "the brotherhood of death"?
The violent energy of the factory slaughterhouse blossoms
in all directions like a black flower from hell and that’s
why we have wars, cancer, conflict, ect.
If there really were a method for prolonging
this life, I would’nt want it!
There are better places than this
shthole of a world in the universe and
the doors are closed shut tightly to meat-eaters.

Rather, why do self-righteous people find it necessary to constantly talk about the means with which other people get their food? I don’t often hear about meat-eating people on Yahoo! Answers asking, "why do vegetarians insist on using so much land to grow their vegetables? That land could be used to build houses for people who don’t have any place to live, but instead the vegetarians insist on using up all the good, warm land to grow their bean sprouts and lentils."
I’m just saying. It might upset you to think that sometimes animals have to die so that people can eat them, but for one thing, you need to get your facts checked before you start crying about how mean other people are.

A lot of the time its for money, like cramping animals all together for more money. Like if they cram cages to the max instead of just letting the chickens be free range, they wouldnt get as much money because there would be less chickens in free range.
A lot of animals are killed as a baby because they taste nicer, and more tender at that age.
Some people are also just complete dick heads who i think deserve to die as they are so mean to poor, inocent animals.
Oh and btw, slaughtering isn’t actually humane, its against human rights, though you might just want to know.

Ok look!! i eat meat and everything else! i watched the peta video! ok it was horrible ! and if there is a law against animal abuse THEN WHY THE FUCK IS IT STILL GOING ON! Animals have stress like us emotions just like us nerves just like us and brains! and there smarter then cats and dogs! but of course there is a law for not abusing them! Just saying if you people dont care that there being tortured then just think like this! If you family was getting beaten, tortured and then slowly killed! what would you go through? You would be pissed and mad, sad and emotionaly hurt! we have feelings just like animals have! so what makes it different if they did it to humans? nothing cause its all the same!

I know what you mean, but sadly no one cares enough to stop it. *sigh* =(

Easy: money. It brings in far more profit to cram a bunch of animals together and pump them full of hormones so they grow faster instead of having fewer animals on a nice, pretty farm and raising them slowly like nature intended.
