mad cow disease was mainly a European problem, but changing the name is stupid. ….unless it is changed to Fajita Flu

By the way, Mad Cow came from eating beef. "Swine Flu" doesn’t come from eating swine.

Mad Cow disease should properly be referred to as BSE (bovine spongiform encephalitis), but the press likes to go with the more interesting name. Hence, swine flu instead of H1N1.

Another reason Texans wants to be the Lone Star State. Oprah cost them millions.One reason Mad cow disease came into the picture is the feeding practices other countries had at the time. American ranchers and farmers use better hygiene and feed grains and hay and inspections instead of guts and crap from the garbage dump.People are too lazy to find out the facts and I guess its just a way to help stop the hysteria.You have a valid point.Of course Democrats have a thing for pork as you can see in the Stimulus Bill.
The mode of transmission is very different
People can get mad cow disease "only" from eating cows. It is always fatal.
People do not get this "Swine flu" virus from pigs. It makes no sense to slaughter pigs on a large scale to eliminate the swine flu. People are getting this disease from other people. There is very little evidence, this disease came from pigs. It has genetic evidence of Avian flu, Swine flu, and Human flu. In this sense, it is like no other flu virus known.
Political correctness is being used to prevent financial harm to pig farmers. I imagine, if there was a cow flu, they would change the name of that to protect beef farmers.
Just to throw another dimension to the equation. Suppose this very different flu like illness wasn’t natural. Suppose it was a variation mutated in a terrorist laboratory and inoculated onto poor, Christian, densely populated areas. The Infection would spread rapidly there and those people would head to the USA for free medical treatment. I know, it’s just a theory, but, it makes as much sense as any thing else.
